What is Functional Nutrition and How Could it Help You?

What is functional nutrition and how could it help you?

Functional nutrition is an approach to health that takes the body as a
whole into consideration. When there is a lack of health functional
nutrition looks for the root cause or main contributing factors.
Objective tests are used and may include blood, saliva, stool or muscle
tests in addition to a comprehensive history and physical exam. Once the
results are analyzed the doctor creates a detailed plan to help support
the function of the involved systems. Interventions can include supplements, dietary and lifestyle modifications.

According to the National Health Council a chronic condition is a
disease lasting three months or longer. Currently chronic diseases
affect approximately 133 million Americans, more than 40% of the
population. This number is estimated to grow to 157 million Americans by
2020 with many of those having multiple conditions.

We are constantly bombarded with choices, choices of what to put IN and
ON our bodies and HOW to respond to situations or stress. The easy
options are often the worst for us in terms of how they impact our
health. We catch ourselves reaching for the soda or energy drink instead
of water and a 10 minute walk outside, or reacting angrily to a
stressful situation instead of taking a moment to let emotions settle.
Functional nutrition helps people learn to choose the healthier options
and develop healthier habits.

Dr. Emily Mallon completed training with Functional Medicine University.  She is
passionate about understanding chronic conditions and helping people
improve their quality of life through healthy movement, lifestyle and
nutrition. A functional nutrition approach helped her to address her own
auto-immunity issues and regain her health. Some conditions she has
worked with include thyroid imbalance, hormone imbalance, auto-immunity
and adrenal/stress response.

Dr. Emily formerly of Tanner, WV,
and a graduate of Gilmer County High School, now resides in Morgantown
with her family. She attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in
Davenport, IA and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She practiced in Illinois
and Michigan prior to returning to WV. She has been practicing in the
Morgantown area since 2008 and currently has several locations where she
helps patients.

Are you looking for a way to live a more
energized and focused life on a daily basis? Functional nutrition could
help you understand WHY you have low energy, brain fog, poor digestion
and a lack of enjoyment in your life. Don’t delay! Call to schedule with

The Olympics, Goals and Chiropractic

Over the next two weeks we can watch the world on stage for one of my favorite events – the Olympics!  Growing up I would watch figure skating any chance I got.  Now I just watch it all, figure skating is still one of my favorites, in addition to snowboarding and skiing.  What are your favorite events?

How do these elite athletes prepare for the games?  They take care of their bodies, when they are feeling weak or injured AND when they are at the peak of their game.  Nutrition and movement are an integral part of their everyday routine.  Many of them include chiropractic adjustments to keep their joints aligned for optimal nerve/body function and joint movement.  In fact, one of my former classmates attended the summer Olympics 2016 in Rio as a team chiropractor.

The athletes are extremely inspiring – everyone has overcome their own challenges and sacrifices to get to where they are.  Do you get motivated by them to become a little faster, more flexible or stronger?  If so, awesome!

A great place to start is with a Chiropractic exam and adjustments to keep YOUR joints aligned appropriately and moving well you can push your current limits easier and with less pain.  We only get one body to live in for the rest of our lives and the last time I checked we don’t have spinal replacements as an option.  Take care of your spine – Get Aligned!

Tune in next time for some information on how good nutrition can help you reach your goals.

Chiropractic Adjustments for Back Pain

Many of us have suffered from back pain in our lives. Repetitive motions, heavy lifting, car accidents and sports injuries can all cause pain. Medications may relieve pain temporarily, but they don’t fix the cause of the pain. Many people turn to chiropractic care to restore mobility and alleviate this pain. Dr. Steven Lint of Bruceton Wellness Center utilizes many services to help his patients’ find relief from back pain.

Dr. Steven Lint will use specific chiropractic adjustments to realign the spine and improve range of motion. This involves using force applied to the spine to put it and surrounding nerves and muscles back into place. Proper alignment allows the body to heal itself without medications or surgery. On your first visit, Dr. Steven Lint will perform an examination and ask questions about the level of pain you are experiencing. From there, the doctor will develop an individualized treatment plan. It’s important to know that back pain is different for everyone. It can be caused by various factors and must be treated in a way that will eliminate the cause. It’s important to inform your chiropractor about your medical history, including any conditions you have and any medications you are currently taking.

If you have questions or concerns regarding chiropractic adjustments, please give us a call. Alleviating Back Pain with Chiropractic Care

Back pain is something that many people suffer from in their life. It can stem from a vigorous workout, lifting something heavy, or as a result of sleeping in a wrong position. When the pain in your back is due to a strained muscle, it will usually heal on its own in a couple of days with rest. However, if your pain lingers or if it is a result of a spinal disc injury, the condition may be more troublesome. Spinal disc injuries are quite common and can be really painful. They can become thin or herniated due to things, like arthritis and other degenerative diseases and affect your overall spinal health. If this is the case, it means that it’s time to visit Bruceton Wellness Center.
Finding the exact source of your back pain can be difficult and symptoms include:
·         Cramping
·         Muscle spasm
·         Buttock pain
·         Stiffness
·         Back pain
·         Spine sensitivity to pressure and touch
·         Prolonged inactivity causes pain
·         Pain lasts longer and gets worse
Depending on the cause and severity of your back pain, Dr. Steven Lint at Bruceton Wellness Center may recommend a spinal adjustment and spinal manipulation of your vertebrae to alleviate your symptoms. An adjustment refers to Dr. Steven Lint  applying manipulation with their hands to vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. The objective of this treatment is to reduce the subluxation with the goals of increasing range of motion, reducing nerve irritability and improving overall function. As a result, this enables you to get back to living your life without having to rely on painkillers.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound for Pain Therapy
Ultrasound is a versatile medical tool. In many circumstances, it is used as a diagnostic tool, such as in pregnancy. However, chiropractors use ultrasound for a different purpose. It is used as a therapy for pain relief. Bruceton Mills chiropractor Dr. Steven Lint uses ultrasound to help his patients get on with their daily activities.

How Does Ultrasound Work?
Ultrasound uses a wand-like device to deliver sound waves into your body. They can go several inches deep into your body. The human ear cannot detect these sound waves. Your body absorbs them and produces heat. The entire treatment time is about five minutes.
Ultrasound does many other things. It increases blood flow and relaxes tissues. If you have scars, ultrasound can reduce their appearance.

How is Ultrasound Used?
Because ultrasound waves are absorbed by the soft tissues in the body, they are useful for healing sprains and strains. They can help heal both acute and chronic conditions. Ultrasound can also be used for delivering medicine. If you put a topical ointment - like Cortisone or Neosporin - on your skin, ultrasound can deliver it beyond the skin's surface. The medicine can help heal deep tissue wounds without pills or injections. In some cases, chiropractors may use ultrasound to diagnose fractures because ultrasound on a broken bone can cause severe pain.

Speed Up Your Healing Today
If you're in pain, don't resort to surgery. Try ultrasound to relieve your muscle and joint aches. For more information, contact Bruceton Mills chiropractor Dr. Steven Lint at (304) 379-7000 or visit us at www.brucetonwellness.com

Acupuncture

You most likely already know that acupuncture is beneficial for back pain, but did you know that you can use it for multiple other issues going on within the body?

Seasonal Allergies
If you suffer from seasonal allergies, acupuncture can help to reduce symptoms, as well as give you the advantage of not needing to use an antihistamine so often. Most people receive a quick response with acupuncture for their seasonal allergies.

Acid Reflux Disease
If you suffer from acid reflux disease, acupuncture can help with soothing it, rather than increasing your medicine. Acupuncture works by speeding digestion and regulating acid secretion.

Immune System Benefits
During acupuncture, when the needles are well-placed, it can lead to a boost of activity within the immune cells, as well as destroy any infections.

Heart Benefits
By having regular acupuncture sessions, it can lead to a decrease of stress markers and lower your blood pressure.

Enhance Your Mood
By having weekly acupuncture sessions, most people can cure their depression in just a few months. This happens because acupuncture will regulate the happy-making neurotransmitters inside your brain.

Experience Quality Sleep
Acupuncture will rev up the production of the neurotransmitters that are associated with sleep and relaxation, which will in return help you beat insomnia and you will be able to sleep better.

If you are interested in acupuncture for any of the above reasons or if you have a separate issue you would like to discuss involving acupuncture, please contact Steven Lint at 304-379-7000 for more information or visit www.brucetonwellness.com
